Week 23
What a relief to finish! I have become aware of several IT applications I either didn't know, or knew little, about. I have also learnt to make hyperlinks! I will keep my LibraryThing and Google.docs accounts but not the Bebo one. Some things I would like to revise, in particular wikis and RSS feeds. I found the course stressful because it seemed so long and I had to learn some IT processes as I went. However, I am now more confident aand equipped

Week 22 ebooks
I watched the video "Introduction to Netlibrary which was reasonably easy to follow, then looked at Project Gutenberg. Neither of the books for which I searched were there; Empire of the Sun and The Name of the Rose, by Umberto Eco. In fact, there were no books by Eco but there seemed to scores by another writer whose books seemed to historical romances (noticed this while scrolling through the alphabetical list of authors. Obviously the coverage depends on the volunteers.

Week 21 Podcasts
I now know there are 3 types of podcasts;audio only, audio + slides and audio + video.
I went into Podcast.com, searched under "book reviews" and picked out NPR Books Podcast http://podcast.com/show/7119/. I heard a book review there about a Christmas experience, there was no picture. I would have to explore podcasts more to decide if they interedt me.

#19 Podcasts, video and E-books.
I looked at a Social Video and Sharing site, Sevenload, in Web 2.00. It seemed very trivial because I can't remember what it showed now. In YouTube Home I looked at a clip from a tribute to Miriam Makemba and noticed that access to related videos is available. Searched for, found and viewed clips from "Tin Drum" and "Blackadder in Videos and looked very briefly at Channels. In YouTube Community I chose the "38 Ghosts" nine inch nails ghosts film festival and am none the wiser after viewing it.
Had quick look at Yahoo and VideosGoogle but didn't find them interesting enough to spend time on.
Right now I can't think of any features exclusive to YouTube and co that could be used on library websites

#7, Week 17. The survey by the Pew Institute on teenage social networking changed my ideas. I'd always thought that loners and "geeks" would be the main users but the survey showed that offline- social teens were the greater online users. I was surprised that girls blogged more than boys. I would like to know if students' publishing research papaers online leads to plagiarism.

Week 14 del.icio.us

Us.ef.ul: A beginners guide to Del.icio.us was mostly ubergeek to me although the author's aim was otherwise. Read bookmarks about an American travel company franchise in Slackermanager.com. In PLCMCL2 I surfed the Yalsa site and then hannahgirl's because it had about 83 bookmarks. Can see that del.icio.us could be useful for sharing information with fellow enthusiasts, students or even scholars.

#12 Week Five: Discovery excerise, part 2

I found the SJCPL and the Library Success wikis informative as examples of a library wiki and a wiki manual. I think customers would find readers reviews in the Book Lovers Wiki useful and many would enjoy contributing to them and wondered if a library could use the topic lists to organise events eg meet your fellow crime fans. I also think wikis would be very useful in organising events and conferences, as the video showed with its example of planning a hike

#12 Week 5 Wikis

Looked at the wikis for SJCPL, Book Lovers wiki and Library Success. The first and third were interesting but the Princeton site was more interesting because it made me realise how a library could become an effective social link for people interested in certain subjects and types of novels through its review pages. If there were a lot of interest in a certain topic, the library could set an relaaaated event or programme in the library

#11 Week Four Technology - Cellphones

I do find cellphone texting very useful when on holiday. It is much cheaper than making an ordinary call. I know there is much more that one can do with a cellphone eg use Airpac to rerquest books and check one's own record, E-mail (but not on my older model). Newer mobile phones have a keyboard so are a mobile office, as it were.

Week Four: Flickr Montagr

I enjoyed using Montagr. I searched for statues and cats, selected individual pictures and enlarged them. I did not E-mail a picture to anyone. I found Montagr easy to use after making a guess about how to explore it - there were no instructions. I can see this site could be useful when creating posters.

Week Four; Flickr

This is a landing craft left over from D-Day either at Arromanches or along the coast from it. By accident we saw visited this place on the eve of the anniversary of D-Day.

I checked out Explore and The Tour in Flickr and set up a Flickr account but didn't use for this photograph. Will revisit it later.

Week 3 Rollyo

I've created two brief searchrolls which I may add to later and added two others. Being of the pre-computer generation am suspicious of the reliability of the contributors but then I suppose it is more of an ideas forum than an authorative source. RSS feeds

For me, this exercise has been almost continually frustrating. I found accessing the parts of the lesson more difficult than the tasks because of all the passwords involved, slow loading time and also because I used my Manukau Libraries e-mail address instead of creating a G-mail account.
I needed help to complete this exercise.
